Planning a wedding can be one of the most elating, yet stressful times of a woman’s life. Whether you’re going excessive, or keeping it small and quaint, there are many particulars that must be dealt with, and often, little time for preparation. This time constraint is often the source of many oversites made by brides before a wedding. Lack of inquiry is another contributing factor. This, however, is often due to the fact that most brides have never planned a wedding before, so the process can prove somewhat daunting. Not sticking to your budget. Often times, couples will set a wedding budget, then make further plans without keeping it in mind. This can be a huge mistake. While it’s easy to get caught up in the excitement and frenzy of preparing for a wedding, it’s important to stick to your budget. Failure to do so can either result in spending more money than you have, or being disappointed when you can’t pay for something you have your heart set on doing.

As a wedding and event planner, I am subject to more than my fair share of indignation and madness. You see, until people plan their first wedding, they never think about how much weddings cost. They want to have affordable weddings, yet they also want to have all of the glitz and glamor. The problem is that, even if you buy a low-cost bridal gown, are frugal on the wedding cake, cheap bridesmaid dresses, and all the rest, it still adds up to a lot of money. The bottom line is that, if you want to have an affordable wedding, you have to be willing to make sacrifices.

I am not saying that having affordable weddings is impossible. If you’re willing to have a small wedding ceremony with only a few of your very closest friends there, you can do it for quite a sensible price. The problem is that, if having affordable weddings is your aim, you’ve got to plan everything around it. That means that you have to have a small guest list, make reservations at an inexpensive place, have an affordable wedding gown, rent a tuxedo for the groom, and generally skimp and save at every chance. Some of my clients have actually taken their own wedding photos to save on the cost of hiring a photographer!

When I married over five years ago, I had heard of a wedding gift registry, but I didn’t know what it was for. When my maid of honor suggested that I do make one, I had to admit that I clueless. She told me that I go to a store of my pick, and ask if they have a gift registry. If they do, they will give me all the information that I need. Even though I felt awkward about it, I did it anyway.

I’m not sure why. but the thought of a wedding gift registry leaves me cold. Though many of the people that I know have used one, and people that want to buy you a gift welcome them- I felt it was something that I didn’t need. My hubby and I had been a couple for quite awhile before we wed, and it wasn’t like we needed very much for our home. It also felt to me like I was telling people what to buy me. I know this is the whole idea behind a wedding gift registry, but it left me feeling very uncomfortable. In the end, I don’t think I told many people that it was even there.

When I got married, I did a lot of the things my own way. Though I found a lot of great information online, and knew where to get the best bargains, there were just certain things that I wanted to do on my own. I have always been like that, and my husband-to-be was not that surprised. I saved a fortune on my wedding dress because I chose one that was a few seasons old, and I thought about my guests before I thought about what I wanted. I even made my own wedding veil.

After I found a bargain on the wedding dress I loved, I had a little extra money to spend, but that didn’t mean I was going to spend it. I could have bought a wedding veil that was very nice, but I couldn’t see spending the money on it when I could make one myself that I would love. It did take me a while to get it right, but the wedding veil I made was very nice, and fit my personality perfectly. I didn’t want something hanging over my face, and that did make things a little easier.
