I am not catholic, but I know many people who abide by the decrees of this faith very precisely. I admire their commitment, and I think they are wonderful people because of it. There are many things in life that are exceptional in theory, but are not so great in practice. Though a catholic wedding seems to cover what the religion means to those who attend, I have to say it is lacking a bit. Though who follow this religion are use to the length of the ceremony, but for an individual like me, this is something of a shock. One of my closest friends asked me to be in her catholic wedding, and I had no idea what I was entering into when I concurred.
The ceremony itself is not bad, it’s the duration of it. It seemed to me that everyone was moving in slow motion, and that didn’t help. A catholic wedding is a tenacious affair, but that might not be the case if everyone would just move a bit faster. You can get things done without looking hurried if you put your mind to it, but it seemed that everyone who was involved in her catholic wedding wanted to take their time.
The duration of the ceremony was too much for me, and the main reason was my choice of shoe. I had to have something with a heel, but I had no idea that I would have to stand in them for an hr. By the time we were halfway through with the catholic wedding ceremony, I thought my feet were going to fall off. They hurt like crazy, and my dress was not long enough for me to slip them off for a bit. I noticed many of the other girls in the wedding were shifting around uncomfortably, and when there were moments when we could sit, you could hear an audible sign of relief from most of the wedding party.
Over all, though, the catholic wedding was lovely, and I am glad that my friend and her new husband had the wedding they desired, and that everything went smoothly. My biggest problem was that I didn’t know what to expect, and that should have
been something that I asked as the preparations were being made. She was quite aware that we might be uncomfortable, but she
was so frayed that she mentioned this to us much too late. That’s okay though, I would do anything for her. I will think twice if someone else asks me to be a part of a catholic wedding again though.
